Asthma Education

Approximately 12% of Alberta’s population has asthma.

There are two types of asthma: allergic and non-allergic. Allergic asthma is caused by an allergic reaction to a trigger, such as pet dander, pollen, or dust mites. Non-allergic asthma is not caused by an allergy but can be triggered by cold air, exercise, or smoke.

Medication and avoiding triggers can control asthma can be controlled. It is essential to work with your healthcare team to create an asthma action plan. This plan will help you identify your triggers and what to do if you have an asthma attack.
